The goal of the educational component of JAZZ ROOTS is to teach, inspire, and enrich young people through unique active learning opportunities to experience jazz music, both in the concent hall and in the classroom, including the cultural influences that impact this art form.

Behind-the-Scenes Experience

JAZZ ROOTS will provide music students and their teachers an in-depth look at the "behind-the-scenes" workings of a live sound check and the technical aspects necessary to produce a successful concert. Students will have an opportunity to dialogue with internationally acclaimed jazz musicians about the music, the artistic process and the practical skills needed for a career in the arts.

Specially Designed Resources for Atlanta Public School Students A national and state standard-based curriculum guide will be developed that will bring aspects of the Cobb Energy Center performances to the classroom with compilation CDs, worksheets and assessment tools, which will introduce and develop a knowledge of jazz and the cultural influences that have shaped the music.

Admission Tickets for Secondary Music Students

Funding will be secured to provide free tickets that will allow music students in Metro-Atlanta Public Schools jazz bands an opportunity to attend the live concerts that make up the JAZZ ROOTS series at the Cobb Energy Center.
